TIDBase

There are two changing factors in every release of OpenSuSE which precipitate slight modifications before installing the client. One, is the novfs kernel module and the other is the version of binutils that the xtier base was compiled against.

1. Download the Novell Client from http://download.novell.com (I'm using the SLE10-SP1 version in the instructions below)
2. Mount the iso in your filesystem (for example, from a command prompt, execute "mount -o loop <path-to-iso>/novell-client-2.90-sle10sp1-i386.iso <mountpoint>" replacing the <> items as appropriate)
3. Create a symbolic link of the required version to the install version of binutils
   For example:
   ln -s /usr/lib/libbfd-2.18.50.20080409-11.1.so /usr/lib/libbfd-2.16.91.0.5.so
   NOTE: This only works because the entry points of the library haven't changed for what is needed by the Novell client. And they certainly haven't tested against this version.
4. Install the xtier base module manually:
   cd <mountpoint>/suse/i586
   rpm -i --nodeps novell-xtier-base-3.1.5-46.i586.rpm
5. Run the install of the Novell client:
   cd <mountpoint>
   ./ncl_install
6. Comment out the novfs compilation code (I'm assuming novfs support is compiled into your kernel)
   Edit /etc/init.d/novfsd and comment out the following two lines:
   cd /opt/novell/ncl/src/novfs
   ./mk_novfs
7. Reboot your system, the ncl_tray program should autostart, if not, try launching it from a terminal window to see if you get any errors.
